Best Start Volunteer

Our trained Best Start volunteers really do play a vital role in the work of our Best Start team and enable us to reach and offer support to many families in Newcastle.  Many have used our services previously and found the support invaluable and so they have wanted to offer support to other women too.

Our Best Start Volunteers are parents who have breastfed (or are breastfeeding) and who have a positive attitude towards breastfeeding.  They promote breastfeeding in a friendly and sensitive manner and support our Best Start team to provide services to breastfeeding women and their families. This includes one to one support and attending our breastfeeding social groups.

Best Start volunteers also promote good attitudes to pregnancy and parenting in a friendly and sensitive manner.  They volunteer alongside the Best Start team and health professionals and the role includes helping to create a welcoming and friendly environment in different settings and welcome new and existing mothers and their families.
